Missing Person

Denise Thiem (aged 41) went to Spain to hike the El Camino trail But went missing in early April. She was last heard from on April 4th and was planned to go to the Mass at 11am on April 5th in Astorga, León before heading out to El Ganso. Denise has not been heard from since. If people would like to help out in the search, they can write to to indicate their interest/ location/ expertise This will give people an action step they can follow if they have the time to help, and especially if they’re already living in Spain that would be a huge help.

“Here is a way to help: We are attempting to organize local searches of the Camino in as many areas as possible. In order to do so, we would like to know how many people would be willing to help – and where – so that we can get organized. The time frame for these searches will like be in the next two weeks, and likely on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

If you want to assist in the search, here’s the information we kindly request from you.

Send an email to with the subject “Team Denise (the name of your city)”. “Team Denise Astorga”, or “Team Denise Leon”, for example. Please include your:

1. Name
2. Telephone number
3. Email address
4. A description of any relevant special knowledge that you are willing to share with us.

For example:
1. Do you have expert knowledge of the Camino and surrounding terrain in your area?
2. Do you have experience with search and rescue?
3. Can you help us print posters and signs?
4. What other services or expertise might you be able to lend to the search effort?”
