Age Concern keeping you busy
By Keith Nicol
AGE CONCERN’S Drop-in Centre on Calle Paganini in La Siesta, Torrevieja is open every day from 10am until 1.30pm. It’s a fun and welcoming place, to meet old friends or make new ones with different activities everyday. The centre has an extensive book, video and DVD lending library and a board games section as well as lots of volunteers on hand to give you support, advice and help should you need it. Age Concern just took over the extensive selection of books from the former La Siesta Lending library and now can offer possibly the largest selection of English language books, to lend, on the Costa. The centre is a fantastic place to socialise and if you are feeling the need for some company, you can go along and meet new friends and enjoy a morning in great company with a cup of tea or coffee and even a biscuit thrown in for free!
Once the morning drop in centre is closed for business, within minutes, the centre reinvents itself for a variety of afternoon activities. Between 2.00pm and 4pm, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there are also activities which everyone can enjoy. On Mondays there is a knitting club, on Tuesdays there is Rumikub and on Wednesdays, Bingo. The Rumikub club is one of the most popular, with a hard core of around 30 players, but there are those who just drop in when they are on vacation, and everyone is welcome.
Collection and return to and from your home using the charity’s mini bus is subject to availability, but for more information, please give the centre a call on 966 786 887 during opening hours.
