Torrevieja Council Announced
Two weeks later than scheduled, Torrevieja finally has an official Alcalde, in Eduardo Dolon Sanchez and within hours he had put together a close knit team of councillors to manage major Town hall department for this four year term of office. Dolon wasted no time in getting down to business and on Monday afternoon he announced the councillors and delegates who will have special responsibilities for the different government departments within the Town Hall.
In essence, he has entrusted the main areas of responsibility to a few trusted councillors and with one exception, experienced members of council. The inner circle would seem to consist of his right hand man and deputy Mayor Joaquin Albaledejo, Dolores Sanchez, Daniel Plaza, Agustina Esteve, Francisco Moreno, Jose Antonio Sanchez, Eduardo Gil and Luisma Pizano Boj.
The above team have many years of experience in local politics and are all overseeing more than one major department. The exception is Luisima Boj who has taken charge of two major departments, Culture and Tourism, both areas vital to the future of Torrevieja. Boj has been working as the mayor’s personal secretary for the past term and is well-versed in Town Hall affairs.
However, the one department that is still waiting to be announced is that for Foreign Residents as Graham Knight is still awaiting to meet with Dolon to discus the future of and expansion of his department. As Mr. Knight humourously put it, “For the moment, I’m just a statistic; one of Zapatero’s five-million!”
