International Action Day Event Marbella

Take action for the environment on 5th June

On Saturday 5th of June from 10.00-15.00 there will be a fun, family-friendly event to support the environment in Marbella, centred around the Puerto Deportivo, the paseo and Playa Venus. Organised by the Rotary Club Marbella-Guadalmina and Mi Moana, this event is part of the EndPlasticSoup International Action Day.

The aim of the Action Day is to increase awareness of the challenges we face with plastic waste and encourages everyone to get involved with tackling the problem by cleaning up plastic waste wherever they find it.

The event includes a beach clean, with Mi Moana and Diving with Nic taking to the water and the shore to clean the beach and the ocean. Volunteers are welcome to come and help the team to collect as much plastic as possible to help protect the ocean and vulnerable wildlife. Experienced divers are welcome to help the team from Diving with Nic, but must pre-register via the contact form at www.divingwithnic.com

There will also be stalls on the paseo around the Puerto Deportivo area and Playa Venus, with educational and interesting activities, as well as information about the environment and activities. The organisers also want to engage and inform the younger generation, so there will be a number of fun and educational children’s activities. These include making their own drawings and statements for the world, colouring pictures, painting shells and face painting, as well as demonstrating what pollution can be found on the beach and in the sea. All participating children will receive a Mi Moana turtle sticker and there is a pop-up shop where you can purchase Mi Moana merchandise and support their cause of protecting the oceans.

As Ambassadors for the End Plastic Soup movement in Southern Spain, Rotary Club Marbella-Guadalmina, with the Rotary Clubs of Mijas, Marbella International and Estepona Sotogrande will be showing videos of exciting new innovations for cleaning up plastic soup, and sharing information on plastic pollution and recycling. Visitors will also be able to see the beach clean in progress via drone.

This event promises to be fun and educational and the organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to come and take part, doing their bit to deal with the world’s plastic problem.
