Mountain Biking Valencia Guided Cross Country Mountain Biking Trips & Holidays in Valencia, Spain

To many people, particularly foreign tourists, the over-riding images of Valencia are either the characteristic architecture of the city or the golden beaches that adorn its coastline. What is so often overlooked, but never fails to leave visitors in awe, are the seemingly endless mountains and valleys and the stunning scenery of the sierras.

As a keen mountain biker and climber, I have explored the mountains of this spectacular area since my first visit some 13 years ago. Even before we moved to Spain in 2006, we would often spend holidays in the area, visiting my wife´s family close to Gandia. I left one of my bikes here, ready to use whenever we visited and in so doing, I soon began to build a detailed knowledge of the local mountains and valleys. In 2009, I decided upon a complete career change and began work as a professional mountain bike guide and instructor. Through our company Mountain Biking Valencia, I now provide guided mountain bike trips, beginners’ skills courses and activity holidays.

My client base is truly international, and I’ve had the pleasure of providing guiding services to visitors from USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium. Many have combined a day or two of mountain biking with other holiday plans whilst others have relied on us to arrange their holiday accommodation too. By working closely with the client, we can design and provide very specific, tailor-made packages that meet their needs. That can range from a single day trip for an individual to a week´s holiday for a family or group with a bespoke programme of activities and free-time.

One of our speciality services is that of mountain bike skills courses for beginners and intermediate riders. It´s a greatly rewarding experience to work closely with a client, and to see their confidence grow as they learn and develop new techniques. Our key priority and operating principle is to make cross country mountain biking available to riders of all ages and abilities. All of our routes are designed by us and vary greatly in distance and terrain type. For children or novice riders we have a number of routes that are largely on surfaced lanes and avoid steep climbs or descents. When providing guided trips for children we often include additional activities such as a boat trip or a ride on a horse and carriage. Other tasks such as basic map reading and navigation are often included too, as a means of maintaining interest and motivation.

For intermediate riders we have a range of routes that involve much more off-road riding. By taking such a trip, our clients have the opportunity not only to venture further into the hills and mountains but also to enjoy the spectacular scenery and serene silence that these very special places have to offer.

For the more experienced rider, we have a selection of longer, harder routes that demand high levels of fitness and ability. These routes are often in excess of 50km and include at least 1,000 metres of ascent. It is on these trips that our clients discover the more remote and secluded areas of the Valencian mountains.

One of the most valuable aspects of our work is to see the reaction of clients when, after a little hard work they find themselves amongst stunning mountain scenery. Many return to us for more, many send their families or friends. Despite the long hours and often irregular working patterns, it is a true privilege to call this fantastic area “home” and for its peaks, valleys and mountains to be where we “work”.
