Madrid Sightseeing
Whenever people think about visiting European capitals, Madrid is probably not their first choice and whenever people think about visiting Spain their first destination is probably the coast or Barcelona.
And they do not know what they are missing. Few cities offer such a wide range of activities. The center of Madrid takes you back in time, you will walk along narrow streets, where the spirit of old knights comes alive. Old buildings with the typical small balconies, bring back images of Spain´s Golden Age. At the same time, you can visit many old taverns and restaurants -the world´s oldest one is here-, that still follow the rules of hospitality. Many pedestrian streets take you from one monument to another: Puerta del Sol, centre of Madrid (and Spain!), with its fan-like shape, has been a meeting point for everybody for many, many years. Plaza Mayor, the old market place, has witnessed bullfights in the past and was the site for many theatre plays and even executions during the Inquisition; the Royal Palace, with over 4000 rooms, still reflects the magnificence of the Spanish Empire. Paseo de Recoletos and Paseo del Prado, wonderful avenues, take you to some of the most important museums of the world: Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen-Bornemizsa, all surrounded by century old trees and parks and lots of terraces, where the visitor can rest, while having a drink. Paseo de la Castellana, continuation of Paseo de Recoletos, takes you to modern Madrid: big skyscrapers, shopping malls, business areas and, last but not least, the Bernabeu football stadium, where the visitor can see the trophies won by the Real Madrid, have a look at the field and even have dinner in its fashionable restaurant.
Children are welcome in Madrid: the zoo, the funfair, Warnerbros Park, Faunia and more, offer daily activities and lots of fun. And young people will find hundreds of different discotheques, bars and pubs to meet new people and have a good time. If you are planning your next holiday make Madrid your choice. It’s worth it.
