No site about Spain would be complete without mention of its world-famous cinema. Pedro Almodóvar, Alejandro Amenábar and the late Luis Buńuel are just three Spanish film-makers who have achieved international acclaim. Going to the cinema has become more and more popular over the past 15 years (despite or perhaps because of the DVD/ video market) and all Spanish cities and most towns now boast modern multiplex cinemas showing the very latest Hollywood and international. Beware - most films are dubbed in Spain and few cinemas outside the main tourist areas show films in the original language. Look out for V.O. (versión original) on billboards or listings. In Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante one enterprising young Spaniard now shows the blockbusters in English often before they have even hit the UK. www.cinemapilar.com All local papers have details of films showing in local cinemas and a visit to the cinema in Spain is relatively inexpensive and even better value on the "día del espectador" You can book at many cinemas through www.entradas.com
One of the great joys of Spain is the "cine de verano" (Lit. "summer cinema" or outdoor cinema) Many towns have outdoor cinemas or even just set up ad-hoc facilities. Whatever, watching a blockbuster on a summer evening in the open is a great way to cool down from the heat of the day.
There are important film festivals in many Spanish cities including Marbella http://www.sportfilm-festsant.com Seville www.festivaldesevilla.com, Santander www.sportfilm-festsant.com and L'Alfas del Pí. www.lalfas.com
Enjoy!
The 4th edition of DiBa (Barcelona Digital Film Festival) wants to show the top international digital productions, by both well-known and up-and-coming film makers, as well as to instigate the development of digital cinema. The digital media open up the possibility of film making to everyone. The limiting factor for new film makers is no longer money, but rather talent and imagination.
DiBa wants to help promote digital films of an artistic standard, made all over the world. The festival wishes to show the new perspectives of cinematic expression, made possible by digital technology, concentrating especially on new directors and film making styles that are emerging thanks to the digital revolution.
The productions presented at the festival, in the competition as well as in the open categories, will be chosen by the DiBa committee.
