Internacional Festival de Arte Marbella Inaugeration Deemed a Huge Success

On Thursday 20th June 2013 over 100 invited guests gathered to celebrate the opening of the 5th edition of the Internacional Festival de Arte Marbella, a three day outdoor art festival which combines fantastic art with a programme of live jazz and classical music and brings art to the people.

Guests were able to get an advance preview of the art on display from over 70 artists from all around the world and enjoy superb performances from Helena Paul and her Jazz trio, the tenors Encore, pianist Heather Bellenne, soprano Anna Sargeant, and tenors Jani and Hoffman.

At the event the festival’s president Caroline Bowley made a speech thanking everyone for attending and stressing the importance of these types of cultural events for the continued prosperity of Marbella.
“Arte Marbella is the only event of its type in Spain and brings visitors from all around the world to Marbella, promoting the town as a cultural destination and broadening its appeal. It allows people of all ages, nationalities and interests to experience art outside the gallery and makes it affordable for people to buy. We believe that bringing art to the people is a really important responsibility and so many people get to experience these works who would not visit a gallery.

We all know that it is a difficult time for everyone financially, however an event such as this should be a focus, as it draws visitors and residents and can be highly profitable for the region as can be seen by Liverpool in the UK which generated nearly 1 billion Euros when they were named City of Culture.

This year has been very difficult and a lack of sponsorship has left us with a serious shortfall in funding. We need individuals to become Friends of the Festival by donating 50€ to the event in order to secure its financial security and we need businesses to pledge their support for coming years, or the festival will die.”
Jose Luis Hernandez, Marbella’s Councillor for Tourism added his support for the festival and his belief that is was important for the town and the region as a whole.
