2,500 students in Torrevieja’s Municipal Sports Schools
It’s been a busy time for parents and their sports’ mad kids as sign ups for Torrevieja Municipal Sports teams and activities has been busier than ever. Daniel Plaza, Councillor for Sports and Education announced last week that for the 2011/12 season that 2,473 people have already enrolled, a rise of 200 more than last year, with figures still to be finalised from the new Torrevieja Tigers Rugby Squad and finalisation of the Municipal Football school. Plaza expects the figure to rise to more than 2,500 by the end of the registration period.
This year 15 different sports are offered by the Municipal Schools: roller hockey, chess, athletics, basketball, handball, cycling, swimming, soccer, football, judo, rowing, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics and rugby. The Department of Sports also offer other activities aimed for the adult population including Body Combat, which has 250 already registered, Pilates with more than 100 enrolled and aerobics classes to be finalised. In addition, the Department of Sports remains committed to keep-fit activities, which this year has 125 students while the swimming courses and club accounts for 170 registered and the new paddle tennis courses, which has a target of 36 students.
