Noche del Coche – Classic Car Night

Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Triumph, Jaguar, Ford, Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Opel, Citroen, SAAB, Porsche, Mustang, Corvette, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, MG, Harley Davidson. If these names make you think of transport, then you are right on the money as cars and bikes representing all these famous names were on display at the Puerto Deportivo, Marina Salinas, last Friday, for Torrevieja’s very first ‘Noche del Coche’ : Car Night.

This gathering of classic, customised and future classic cars and bikes was originally put together by a group of local enthusiasts, just looking for something a little different to do. In keeping with the transportation theme, Marina Salinas proved to be a popular choice for this very informal, casual and fun night, attracting almost 30 cars and over 200 visitors to the Marina, many of them for the very first time. Although Marina Salinas is located just a few yards/metres from the Pascual Flores and Delfin S-61 Submarine, many locals and visitors are unaware that the complex also is home to a number of elegant cafés, along with boating services. Parking in their exterior zone is also free, first come first served, until May 31st, to allow you to sample their hospitality, an offer which will probably be offered again after August 31st!

One of the most noticeable aspects of the first ‘Noche del Coche’ was the friendly atmosphere, especially between the 20-somethings, with their modern hatchbacks full of flashing lights, neon and great sound systems and the slightly more mature owners of the classic, exotic and muscle cars. The first night was low-key, to give the organisers and management of the Port a feel for the occasion and ambience. It’s hoped that with the collaboration of management at Marina Salinas, the backing of the restaurant and café owners, local car clubs and a little sponsorship, that this will become a regular event. Thanks also go out to Oscar from Marine Engines SL and Irene and Alan from café Ole del Mar, for helping to make the evening go as smoothly as it did.

It’s hoped that ‘Noche del Coche’ will be become a regular monthly event, taking place on the last Friday of each month at the Puerto Deportivo, Marina Salinas. Now that the clocks have changed (so we can see the cars and bikes better) and the weather’s warming up, why not come along and enjoy the show or bring your own pride and joy along to display on the last Friday of the month, between 2000~2200 hrs.
