F.C.Torrevieja Golf Society

As a keen golfer, not that I am good but I do love it the game, as a Torry Army Member and an avid fan of F.C.Torrevieja, I decided In late February 2009 to see if something could be done to get the sports together in some way.
Many people visit the Costa Blanca each year as holiday makers, visit their holiday homes and whilst they are here would like to watch the ‘footie’ and with the following of F.C.Torrevieja and the fact that they are in the 3rd.Division this becomes a must. Also, a lot play golf but they do not play here in Spain (1) because the cost of golf here in Spain is much more expensive that in the U.K when going direct to the Golf Course and (2) Golf Societies charge large sums to become members plus many discourage visitors and charge for a one-off visit/play and, of course, their visit does not always coincide with the society days.
With this in mind I felt that something could be done to correct this situation and as a start I visited a couple of golf courses to discuss the matter with their directors. With Torrevieja being a base I decided to go both north and south of the town and visited El Plantío (close to Alicante Airport) and La Serena, Los Alcázares (close to San Javier Airport). From these discussions, I was able to provide rates for any Torry Army Member to play these courses at about half the price they would have paid by going direct and they would be able to do this any time, day/week/month. In the case of La Serena they would even give 2 Euros back to the Football Club from every green fee they took from a direct Torry Army Member. We will, as time goes by, endeavour to add a few more courses to our portfolio.
After 5 months with what I considered to be a very good player base I was approached by Eduardo Manuel Cagigao Souto – better known as Eddie Cagigao to us all here and many overseas. As Presidente of F.C.Torrevieja he invited us to come on board and continue to do all that I was doing but as the F.C.Torrevieja Golf Society. This, I considered to be an honour, but, I have a thing about Golf Societies and what I consider is the way most of them are run and this held me back. However, Eddie made it very clear that it would be run as he does the Club and that I would be President all the time he was President of F.C.Torrevieja with all decisions being taken by the President. What more can one say? The F.C.Torrevieja Golf Society was born.
While I am a golfer first and foremost, I will ensure that our efforts to grow will be in tandem with the Torry Army for membership and the Football Club where we hope to assist wherever we are able to raise funds, keep the club alive and to push on to greater heights in Spanish Football
Remember you do not have to be a ‘footie fan’ to join us but if you would like to join this friendly/family, no frills society please email David Winder for details. If you are here to see our Footie Club give me a look up at Vicente Garcia Stadium which as most of you aware is to become a 10,000 all seater covered stadium.
Look forward to seeing/hearing from you and remember “COME ON TORRY”
