According to the Observatory of Business and Employment of the Government of Catalonia, in 2014 Catalonia received 16.7 million foreign tourists (7.2% more than 2013), who spent over 1.5 billion euros (6.1% more than last year). These figures secure Catalonia’s spot as Spain’s top destination in terms of the number of visits from foreign tourists, making Catalonia one of the leading tourist destinations not only in Europe but worldwide.
As for Girona and the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona brands, more than 4.7 million foreign tourists were registered in 2014 with 22 million overnight stays, including those at registered tourist apartments.
By markets, French tourists make up the destination’s biggest percentage of tourists, followed by the British, who continue to make a comeback, and the Germans.
